Where can I get free business coaching?

When an entrepreneur replies to the question “How’s business going?”, we often find ourselves explaining how busy things are and our latest accomplishments. Even though it is easy to project confidence and success, it is often even harder to ask for advice or admit shortcomings.

A business coach can make all the difference in the growth of your startup. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to pay an expensive consulting fee for expert advice. The following are just a few examples of free business coaching services:

  • SCORE Mentors: SCORE has an expansive network of 10,000 business experts who volunteer and provide confidential business advice. You can meet with one or several mentors via email, video calls, or face-to-face meetings. Click here to learn more about finding a SCORE Mentor.

  • Local SBDC: The Small Business Development Center (SBDCs) has a wide network of nearly 1,000 locations across the United States. You can meet with an SBDC coach one-on-one face-to-face or you can participate in training through their mobile app webinar series. Click here to find your local SBDC.

  • Incubator Mentors: The Whitewater University Innovation Center clients and affiliates benefit from our iMentor coaching network. We can connect our members with coaches who can provide expertise on business planning, marketing and sales, and product development. Contact us with your needs.

Before you contact a business coach, define your need and what type of advice you are seeking. The right coach will depend on your business needs and preferences. It may also be a good idea to contact a few business coaches and get to know them, so that you can find the right mentor-mentee fit.
